She smiled slightly. "Good catch, Arjun."

They checked the shop's back door — locked from inside, but the latch showed fresh scratch marks.

"Someone entered through here earlier in the day," Meher said. "Before closing. Hid until night."

The CCTV had been disabled — not broken, just switched off from inside. Meaning someone who knew the system.

"An employee," Arjun said.

Meher nodded slowly. "Or someone who used to be one."

They pulled the shop's employment records. Three names stood out — a young apprentice named Kabir, a delivery boy, and a former assistant who'd been let go two months ago after an argument over unpaid wages.

His name was Ritesh Salvi.

"Motive and access," Meher said. "Let's start with him."

Ritesh lived in a cramped one-room apartment above a tea stall. When they knocked, he opened the door already looking nervous.

"I didn't do anything," he said before they even asked a question.

Meher stepped inside calmly. "We didn't say you did."

"Did you take the emerald?" Meher asked directly.

"No," Ritesh said, voice cracking. "I swear on my mother's life."

Meher studied him a long moment, then turned to Arjun. "What do you think?"

Arjun felt the old spark returning — the instinct he thought had died. "He's telling the truth about the emerald. But he's hiding something else."

Ritesh's eyes flicked away.

"The scratch marks on the door," Arjun continued. "Those weren't from breaking in. Those were from someone practicing how to pick it. You've done this before, haven't you? Just not last night."

Ritesh's shoulders sagged. "I went there. Two nights ago. I wanted to scare him. Just wanted my money back. But I lost my nerve and left. I swear I didn't go last night."

Meher exchanged a glance with Arjun. Same thought, unspoken.

"If not you," she said, "then who else knew the door's weakness?"

Back at the station, they reviewed the shop's supplier list. One name appeared repeatedly — a courier company that delivered polish and cleaning supplies weekly.

The driver, a man named Farid, had access every single day. Nobody suspected delivery staff. Nobody ever does.

That night, they staked out his residence.

They intercepted him near the platform.

"We solved it," she corrected. "There's a difference."

"I know," she said. "That's why I'm doing it."
