"This is Twilight," she said. "Not the absence of light or the victory of darkness. The harmony of both. The balance that Valdris sought and Voss feared."

The emissaries watched, spellbound. When she finished, the eldest—a man named Lord Harrow who had lost his own daughter to an Order purge—spoke quietly.

"My girl had shadow magic. She was ten. The Order took her, said they would 'cleanse' her. She never came back." He met Elara's eyes. "If what you say is true—if she could have been saved, taught, made whole—then I have spent twenty years hating the wrong people."

"You were deceived," Elara said gently. "As we all were. The question is what we do now, knowing the truth."

Harrow was silent for a long moment. Then he knelt—not to Elara, but to Kaelen.
